Love of Christ

Dear Members, Associate Members and Winter Texas Friends,

It has been a long, hot and dry summer. October brings us some hope for cooler weather and some rain. We also look forward to the arrival of our "friends" from the North. It is always a joy to see each other again.

It is also a joy to serve the Lord together in the ministry at Love of Christ. The people of Love of Christ know that it is every Christian's obligation to proclaim the Gospel and that it is not just the pastor's work. Article Five of the Augsburg Ministry", speaks of this work. This office exists so that people may come to faith by the power of the Holy Spirit through the means of the Gospel and the Sacraments.

There may still be the belief around today that the pastor is the symbolic Christian (Clericalism). That is he/she (the pastor) is the one who prays, believes, thinks, feels what a Christian is supposed to pray, think, feel, and believe so we don't need to. (He/she takes all the other people's responsibilities). After all, we pay him to do these sorts of things for us. Or so the thought goes. This is not so with the people of Love of Christ. They pray, think, believe and serve the Lord with responsibility. They do the ministry. They do not expect the pastor to do it for them. So, once again, I thank God for you.

As Paul said to the Philippians:
"I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ." (Philippians 1:3-6)
